26-year-old man killed in fiery accident on I-275 at Gandy Blvd.

Florida Highway Patrol officials say that a 26-year-old Tampa man died after he crashed his pickup truck into a car near Gandy Boulevard while traveling on Interstate 275. In a high-speed accident, a pickup truck slammed into a southbound car driven by a 25-year-old St. Petersburg man on I-275. After they left the road, the cars and pickup trucks went into the shoulder of the road where the car came to a stop while the pickup struck a light pole and tree then caught fire. The driver of the pickup died at the scene. One of the passengers, 22, from Tampa, was seriously injured. Minor injuries were sustained by the driver of the car. According to the Highway Patrol, information about those involved in the collision cannot be released because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to the state Constitution that protects crime victims but omits information that would be available to the public via Florida’s public records law.
